When it comes to health care, rural Americans are being short-changed.

• Rural hospitals are closing because Medicare pays less to rural hospitals than it does to urban hospitals for the same procedures.

• Without hospitals, rural communities struggle to recruit and retain doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.

• Over 4 million rural Americans don’t have adequate health insurance.

Policies to ensure access to affordable, quality health care of must be established for rural Americans and for all Americans. It makes no sense for the U.S to be the only country in the industrialized world where millions of families have no access to health care at all.
