Resource Conservation

Protection of our soil and water resources. Is there anything more important to the security of our nation than the health of our topsoil and the quality of our groundwater? Yet today, weak policies, low prices and misplaced national priorities are allowing billions of tons of topsoil to be lost and millions of gallons of untreated animal waste to flow into our rivers and streams.

Our leaders must commit to helping family farmers protect our air and water by increasing funding for farm conservation programs, placing strong controls on large-scale confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), and supporting sustainable agriculture research and extension programs. Innovative programs like Conservation Security deserve the full support of the Administration and the USDA. Our children deserve the security of food produced on soil deeper and richer than it is today.
