More arrests at Swift Plant in Marshalltown
July 12, 2007
There's been another raid at the Swift Plant in Marshalltown this week, but this time, it wasn't just illegal immigrants that federal officials were after. Immigration and Customs agents arrested four people on Tuesday, including a union representative and a human resources worker.
Both face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for allegedly harboring illegal immigrants. The human resource officer faces an additional count of failing to report a crime after knowing or participating in one.
"I was stunned because it's another whole piece of what's going on now. It's another whole level of arresting people because their charges have to do with allowing to get work and harboring people who are known to be undocumented," says Sister Chris Feagan of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown.
The other two people arrested in Marshalltown face charges of illegal residency. Tuesday's nationwide raids
