Winona County: Emergency Operations Center Information Update

The Winona County Emergency Operations Center shares the following information updates:

Call centers are being established for residents and business owners to register for FEMA assistance, which can amount up to $28,200. Registration is necessary to start the process. People can register by phone at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). FEMA will contact individuals about when they will be able to inspect their property. Meanwhile, clean-up should continue, and if a camera is available, take photos. It is also possible to register on the Web. Winona schools will be offering computer access to register on the Web at: www.fema.gov .

Volunteer Center Update

People who would like to volunteer in specific areas can call 507-457-8882. Volunteers must register at the Underdahl Building (Huff and 2nd Street in Winona) to receive work assignments. The Volunteer Center hours are: Friday until 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. n 8 p.m. Shower facilities for volunteers are available at several locations.

Health

Winona County Public Health nurses will be providing free tetanus shots Friday until 3:30 p.m. at the Goodview City Hall, Elba Catholic Church, and Stockton Community Center.

Experts are being employed to address mold issues during clean-up. 10,000 masks are arriving to provide respiratory protection.

Donation Center Update

The Winona County Flood Relief Donation Center is now located in the Underdahl Toyota building at Huff and 2nd Street in Winona. The center recently moved from the Winona Mall. The new and much larger facility offers a more streamlined process for connecting donated supplies with those in need. Personal hygiene and cleaning supplies are available to those in need.

Many items are still needed. The center is seeking NEW and/or UNOPENED supplies as follows:

Brooms, squeegees w/long handles, Kleenex, scrub brushes, mops, laundry detergent, Lime-a-Way, rubber gloves (large and heavy-duty), baby wipes, bee traps, allergen-free detergent, shovels, storage totes w/lids, garbage bags, fans, boots (heavy-duty, rubber and/or work), face masks, protective eyewear, toilet paper, plastic sheeting for windows, duct tape, rags, buckets, work gloves, paper towels, razors, spray bottles, hand sanitizer, bug bite stick and cream, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, lotion, first aid supplies, feminine products, socks and underwear, NEW bath towels, hydrogen peroxide, eye protection, non-scented bleach, steel rakes, cleaning supplies, water hoses, baby diapers, dish soap, dust pans

Donation Center is NOT accepting ANY food, clothing or toys at this time.

Individuals interested in donating supplies should deliver them to the Underdahl Building (Huff and 2nd Street) Donation Coordinator.

Housing Hotline

Area citizens in need of housing due to the flooding should contact the Winona County Housing Hotline at 507-454-3665. Housing information also may be picked up in person at 1756 Kraemer Dr., Winona.

Housing Inspections

Structures must be inspected before residents can move back in. Electric service must be inspected by a certified electrician. Building inspectors from around the state will be arriving to assist with inspecting structures.

Safety

Security is being increased with assistance from other cities and counties to protect property and address reports of theft.

Transportation

County Road 17 north of Witoka is being re-opened today. CR 39 west of Hwy. 74 and CR 33 north of Hwy. 14 are being evaluated, and the latter may be closed.

Waste Disposal Sites

Elba: Roll-offs distributed in community

Goodview/Minnesota City: Badger Construction parking lot at Theurer and Patneaude Drive.

Rushford: Private contractors hauling to Winona

St. Charles: Roll-offs on municipal lot at Richland Ave. and 14th St.

Stockton: Roll-offs at community center.

Winona: William Miller’s Transfer Station accepting flood waste in Gunderson and Saehler Additions.
